Rahab and Joshua's Spies

Question: How did the spies in Jericho escape through the city gates that were shut, as mentioned in Joshua 2:15-16?

Moses had died and the people of Israel were freed to take the Land promised to them by Almighty God.

Joshua sent two spies into the “Promised Land”, with special instructions regarding Jericho.  They entered Jericho when the town gate was still ajar; and stayed the night at the house of Rahab the harlot.

Word of their arrival was given to the king of Jericho, who initiated a search for the spies.  Rahab lied to the searchers and hid the spies, and gave them instructions on her plan.

Rahab helped them escape through her window, which was on the city wall!

In return, and for the gratitude of Israel, the two spies agreed that when God gave the City to Israel, she and her whole family would be spared the carnage!

The people of Jericho had heard of the “Parting of the Red Sea”; and the killing of the two Kings of the Amorites, Sihon and Og, who were considered Nephilim; and they were in awe of the prowess of the Israelites, and their God!

To ensure that the Jews kept to their word; Rahab was to tie a scarlet cord to her window; and to remain silent and mute regarding the plans of the Jewish invasion!
